Poor quality semen may result from abnormal sperm production in testes; post testicular damage of spermatozoa in the epididymis, or abnormal secretions of male sex accessory glands. These glands are made of epithelial & mesenchymal cells requiring ‘Androgen’ for proliferation and functioning.

Prostate is one of the secretary male sex accessory glands contributing to about 1/3rd volume of seminal plasma.  Prostate secretions include: citrate, acid phosphates, zinc & various proteases. 

Zinc is one of the Bio-markers for prostate functioning.  Zinc is constituent of many metalloenzymes, and free zinc has been claimed to act as Bacteriostatic in seminal plasma.  Also it has a potential role in regulation of citrate metabolism.  Citrate acts as an important contributor of osmotic balance & may also be important as ion chelator.

• Store the kit in appropriate conditions as per the instructions given on the package.
• Do not use the kits beyond expiry date given on the package.
• All the reagents are potentially hazardous and it is strictly advised to follow the MSDS instructions.
• All the patients' samples should be treated as potentially infectious. Laboratory personnel are advised to wear protective gloves, face masks, laboratory coats etc while performing the tests.
• Dispose off all the waste generated, during and after the tests, in an appropriate manner as per the governing compliance laws of the land.
